Indexed Universal Life (IUL)
Indexed Universal Life Insurance
Permanent protection with market-linked cash value growth — upside without the downside.
Indexed Universal Life (IUL) is permanent life insurance that links your cash value growth to a market index like the S&P 500. When the index rises, your cash value grows — and when the market falls, a 0% floor protects your principal. It's a balance of protection, growth, and flexibility.

Key Benefits
Why families choose this coverage.
Market-Linked Growth
Cash value is credited based on the performance of a market index — capturing upside in strong years.
Downside Protection
A 0% floor means your cash value doesn't lose money when the market drops — your principal is protected.
Tax-Advantaged Growth
Cash value grows tax-deferred, and policy loans are generally tax-free — a powerful retirement supplement.
Flexible Premiums
Adjust how much you pay and when, within policy limits, to match your cash flow and goals.
Adjustable Death Benefit
Increase or decrease the death benefit as your needs change — without buying a new policy.
Living Benefits
Many IUL policies include accelerated death benefit riders for chronic, critical, or terminal illness.
How It Works
From first call to active policy.
- 1
Consultation
Anthony maps your long-term goals — legacy, tax-advantaged retirement income, or both — to the right IUL design.
- 2
Application
Complete the application with personal, health, and financial details. IUL typically requires full underwriting and a medical exam.
- 3
Underwriting
The insurer assesses your health and risk. Approval typically takes 4–8 weeks, after which your policy is issued.
- 4
Index Allocation
Once active, you choose how to allocate cash value across index strategies — Anthony reviews performance with you over time.
Who It's For
This coverage fits your life if...
- People who want permanent coverage with growth potential
- High-income earners maxing out retirement accounts seeking tax-advantaged growth
- Families who want market upside without market risk to their principal
- Anyone looking for a flexible, living asset that supplements retirement income
- People whose needs may change over time and want adjustable coverage
The Structure Problem
Same product. Two very different outcomes.
Indexed Universal Life isn't good or bad on its own. It's a flexible chassis — and how it's built decides whether it becomes a tax-advantaged asset your family can lean on, or an underfunded policy that quietly collapses.
Poorly structured
- Premium set to the minimum — just enough to keep the policy technically alive.
- Death benefit maxed out to make the monthly cost look cheap, which starves the cash value.
- Charges and cost of insurance consume most of what you pay in.
- Little to no cash value after 10–15 years, so there's nothing worth borrowing against.
- A later income loan can force the policy to lapse in your 70s — when it can no longer be fixed.
- Sold once, then never reviewed again.
Properly structured
- Premium sized so the cash value actually grows instead of being eaten by internal charges.
- Death benefit sized to your real need — not to what maximizes the agent's compensation.
- Funded to the IRS maximum without crossing into a Modified Endowment Contract (MEC), so growth and loans stay tax-advantaged.
- The retirement income plan is modeled before the policy is issued, not improvised in your 60s.
- Loan and withdrawal scenarios stress-tested against the guaranteed column, so there are no surprises.
- Reviewed every year and adjusted as index credits and your life change.
Cash value over 30 years
Identical premiums. Different design.
Hypothetical illustration for educational purposes only — $500/month on two different policy designs, 30 years. Not a projection or guarantee of results. Actual credits depend on the index, caps, participation rates, charges, and the policy you own. Indexed universal life is not a security and is not an investment in the stock market.
Why the structure is the whole conversation
The policy is only as good as the person who designs it.
Most people who end up disappointed by an IUL weren't sold a bad product. They were handed a default design that was never meant to work as hard as it could — and nobody went back to check on it.
My job starts before the paperwork. I run the illustration with you, not on your behalf — and we look at the guaranteed column as closely as the non-guaranteed one. That's where the real story is.
- I design to the maximum non-MEC funding your budget allows, so your growth stays tax-advantaged.
- I size the death benefit to what your family actually needs — not to what lowers the quote.
- I model your income withdrawals before you sign, across good and bad index years.
- I show you exactly what has to be true for the plan to work, and what happens if it isn't.
- I review your policy annually and adjust contributions instead of waiting for a crisis.
- You get one licensed professional from the first question to the signed policy.
No cost, no obligation. We'll run your numbers together and you'll see the difference before you decide anything.
Common Questions
Quick answers about indexed universal life insurance.
Is my money invested directly in the stock market?
No. Your cash value is credited based on the performance of an index, but you don't own the underlying stocks. The insurer credits interest based on index movements, subject to caps and floors — which is what creates the upside-without-downside structure.
What are caps and floors?
A floor (often 0%) is the minimum credited interest — you don't lose money in down years. A cap is the maximum credited interest in a single period, even if the index rises more. Together they define the range of your potential credited returns.
Can IUL replace my retirement accounts?
It shouldn't replace them — it complements them. IUL is a tax-advantaged supplemental strategy that can provide tax-free retirement income via policy loans, but it's not a substitute for maxing out 401(k)s and IRAs first. Anthony helps you place it correctly in your plan.
